DAYTONA BEACH, Fla -- Florida Atlantic controlled the action from start to finish in a 76–65 win over Loyola Marymount at the 2025 Sunshine Slam, using a strong first half and steady second-half execution to secure the victory. The Owls carried a 41–34 lead into halftime and kept the Lions at arm’s length the rest of the way with efficient offense and physical rebounding.

Devin Vanterpool chipped in 14 points (5-of-12 FG, 4-of-9 from three) while adding 7 rebounds and 4 assists, delivering one of his most complete performances of the season. His shooting provided key spacing for FAU’s offense, and his ability to rebound in traffic created extra possessions that helped the Owls maintain control. Vanterpool also served as a steady playmaker, keeping the ball moving and setting up teammates during crucial stretches. His versatility on both ends of the floor played a major role in FAU’s ability to sustain momentum and close out the win.

Kanaan Carlyle led FAU with 24 points, knocking down shots at all three levels and going a perfect 7-for-7 at the free-throw line. The Owls also dominated the glass with a 42–29 rebounding advantage, giving themselves second-chance opportunities while limiting LMU’s ability to build momentum.

Jalen Shelley paced LMU with 15 points, but the Lions’ inconsistent shooting and difficulty creating clean looks proved costly. Despite a few pushes to cut the deficit, FAU’s defensive pressure and control of the boards prevented any late comeback, sending the Owls through the Sunshine Slam with a convincing performance.
